WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE HERE

Led by the Pastoral Team of Bishop Christian Riesbeck, CC (Pastor), Fr. Ralph McRae, EV (Rector) and Fr. Lawrence Hyginus, CC (Parochial Vicar), the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a welcoming, invitational and vibrant community committed to creating a home for all who are curious about Christ and his Church, journeying together in Christ, and learning to go out to into the world to share the Good News of God’s love. We aspire to embody the diocesan mission:

“Led by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel and the Eucharist, we are called to raise up disciples who are joyfully living out the mission, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ, and making disciples of others.”

MEET OUR BISHOP

Most Rev. Christian Riesbeck, CC

A man dressed as a Catholic priest or bishop, wearing a black robe with white sleeves, a clerical collar, and a large ornate cross necklace, standing inside a church or cathedral with architecture visible in the background.

As thirteenth Bishop of the Diocese of Saint John, New Brunswick, the Most Rev. Christian Riesbeck, CC, is passionate about leading people into a deep encounter with Jesus and his Church. He was ordained to the priesthood on October 12, 1996, and ordained a Bishop on March 19, 2014. He is a member of the Companions of the Cross and ministered in Houston, Texas, Kingston, Brockville and Ottawa, Ontario, before arriving in the Diocese of Saint John, where he was installed as diocesan Bishop on December 9, 2019. Inspired by Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, he chose the Joy of the Gospel as his episcopal motto, striving to embody this in everything he does. His pastoral focus is to raise up disciples who are joyfully living out the mission, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ, and making disciples of others. One of his greatest joys is seeing people give their hearts to Jesus and discover the true meaning of their lives in Him.
