Celebrating a Beautiful Transformation at the Virgin’s Chapel Entrance
Over the past few months, the entrance to the Virgin’s Chapel has undergone a remarkable transformation—thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team and volunteers. What began as a simple repair project has blossomed into a four-month effort to make this sacred space more welcoming and beautiful for all who visit.
This project was made possible through the generous service of Lou Kane, a devoted volunteer who shared countless hours and exceptional skill to bring this vision to life. Lou was assisted by Sean McNulty, our Maintenance and Facilities Manager, and Stephen Mazerolle, our summer student helper. Together, they tackled a long list of repairs and improvements, including:
Painting the lower walls and staircase soffit
Repairing and painting damaged walls
Priming and finishing the lower half of the staircase
Ceiling repairs near the St. Anne Chapel doors
Terrazzo floor and baseboard restoration (soon to be completed)
Rebuilding and refinishing the staircase landing soffit with new sheetrock
Tidying and restoring the stained-glass transom over the Lady Chapel door
Priming and repainting the window well and sash
This work not only addressed structural issues but also restored beauty and dignity to an important entrance of our cathedral. The stained glass now gleams, the walls are refreshed, and the space reflects the care and reverence it deserves.
As we near completion, we are pleased to share before-and-after photos of this incredible transformation. Let this story inspire us all to share our time and talents in service of the mission—just as Lou, Sean, and Stephen have done so generously.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Virgin’s Chapel entrance a place of welcome and grace!
